Cosmetic and Skin Care Products (Spring Favourites)

Hi everyone this blog is just a little update on the skin care and beauty products I've been particularly enjoying lately! Let me know if you've been loving any of these products too.

Firstly, the foundation I've recently picked up and been loving at the moment is M.A.C "Matchmaster 1.0". This foundation gives a really nice satin finish to the skin, sits nicely (not too cakey but enough coverage) and is fairly long wearing. The brush i have been using to apply this with is the Real Techniques "Expert Face Brush" which is amazing and i highly recommend it. To go with the foundation i also picked up the "Pro Longwear" concealer in shade NW15 which has been nice however i feel with this you need to apply it fairly lightly as it can be quite heavy looking.

Maybelline The Falsies Volume Express Mascara : This mascara is very new to my makeup collection but already has become one of my favourite's along with Max Factor's False Lash Effect. This mascara gives my lashes volume, length and without making them too clumpy or sticky!

L'Oreal Super Liner Perfect Slim: I have re-purchased this eyeliner a few times already and i find it perfect for winged/cat eye-liner. I love that the pen on this is very slim allowing you to create a very thin precise line yet it is also great for creating thick dramatic liner as well.

Avene Cleanance Mask: For me this mask is amazing for clearing away any blemishes/acne. I use this about 2 times weekly and it instantly dries out spots/blemishes and leaves your skin feeling and looking less irritated and red. I would suggest however investing in an oil-free moisturizer to use after this as some people find it to be quite drying on the skin.

BB Seaweed Lush  Fresh Face Mask: I recently purchased this mask at Lush and i have used it a few times already! So far it's made my skin feel very revived and refreshed. I have heard this mask is a really good one for your complexion and it also contains antiseptic ingredients so it is also good for troubled skin.

La Roche Posay-Effaclar Duo: This is now a staple item in my skin care routine and i use it everyday, once in the morning and at night. It is really good for helping with blemishes but it also acts as a light moisturizer as well and i really enjoy using this product.

Pavlova Recipe

Hello everyone, today i decided to go off the usual beauty topic and instead wanted to show you what i have been baking recently and let you guys know how i make my pavlova's! Firstly, if you're not sure what a pavlova is, it is basically a crispy meringue outer shell with a marshmallow center that is topped with fresh cream and berries of you're choice. This recipe originates from Australia and is a super easy summer dessert but i make it all year round!

What you will need:

  • 3 large fresh egg whites
  • 175 grams of caster sugar (6 oz)
Topping:
  • 275 ml of whipping or double cream ( 10 fl oz)
  • 350 grams of mixed fruits or berries of your choice
  • A little icing sugar to dust
Preparations:
  • Line a fairly large baking tray with baking paper

Method:

  • Pre-heat your oven to gas mark 2, 150°C (300° F)
  • Firstly, separate the egg whites from the yolk and place them in a large clean bowl and make sure to have the sugar measured and ready. Now whisk the egg whites until they form soft peaks and you can turn the bowl upside down without them sliding out. Make sure not to over whisk the egg whites because if you do they may start to collapse.
  • When they're ready, start to whisk in the sugar, approximately 25 g (1 oz) at a time, whisking after each addition until all of the sugar is in. Once this step is complete it should look something like the picture above.
  • Now, take a teaspoon and spoon the meringue mixture on to the prepared baking sheet and form a circle about 8 inches or however you like.
  • Then, spoon round blobs of mixture next to each other so that they join up and form a circle, this next part is not essential but for my pavlova i like to create swirls on each blob just for decoration. To do this i use a skewer to create the soft peaks.
  • Now, place the baking tray and meringue mixture into the oven and immediately turn the temperature down to gas mark 1, (140°C) and leave the pavlova to cook for an hour.

Once the pavlova is ready turn the heat off but leave it inside the oven until it is completely cold. Then you can start to whip up the cream and prepare the fresh berries for topping. Personally i like to use raspberry's and i finish by dusting lightly with icing sugar.

My M.A.C Neutral Quad

Hello everyone! Hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year. Today i thought i'd share with you guys my M.A.C neutral quad. I didn't go out and buy this all at once it took me a while to choose the colours and save up the money, hope you enjoy :)

Top Left: Vanilla   Top Right: Satin Taupe   Bottom Left: Sumptuous Olive   Bottom Right: Brown Down

As you can see from the pictures above i have already hit pan on 'Satin Taupe', this was my first purchase towards this palette and it's such a lovely brown/purple taupe! I love all the colours in this palette, i use them every day and i definitely recommend them as they are all very pigmented and easy to blend and work with on the eyes. 'Brown Down' is the only colour that i hadn't actually heard much about when i bought it, its basically a very rich matte dark brown which is great for the outer corners and crease for extra definition!
